Group Therapy
Group Therapy
Therapy doesn't always have to happen one-on-one. Group therapy offers an opportunity to develop new skills, gain perspective, and work through challenges alongside others who may be navigating similar experiences.
At Good Therapy NYC, our groups bring together evidence-based approaches and the benefits of shared experience. Led by trained clinicians, each group provides a structured, supportive environment where participants can learn, reflect, and practice new ways of responding to life's challenges.
Group therapy can be a valuable complement to individual psychotherapy or a meaningful form of treatment on its own, depending on your needs and goals.
Why Group Therapy?
One of the unique benefits of group therapy is the opportunity to learn from others. Hearing different perspectives, recognizing shared experiences, and practicing skills in a supportive environment can help participants develop greater insight and confidence.
Our groups are designed to provide:
Connection and shared experience: An opportunity to engage with others facing similar challenges.
Practical skills: Evidence-based tools that can be applied outside of sessions.
New perspectives: A chance to better understand patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behavior.
Professional guidance: Structured sessions facilitated by clinicians with training in the group's treatment approach.
Each group has its own focus, structure, and goals. Some emphasize learning and practicing specific skills, while others focus on interpersonal support, reflection, and navigating life transitions.

DBT Skills Group at Good Therapy NYC
Practical skills for emotions, stressful moments, and relationships
Sometimes you know what you want to do differently, but it’s difficult to follow through when emotions take over.
Good Therapy NYC’s 12-week DBT Skills Group offers a structured space to learn and practice tools for responding more effectively. Drawing on Dialectical Behavior Therapy, we’ll cover four areas:
Mindfulness: Notice thoughts, feelings, and urges before immediately reacting.
Distress tolerance: Get through difficult moments without making the situation worse.
Emotion regulation: Understand emotional patterns and practice ways to change your responses.
Interpersonal effectiveness: Ask for what you need, set boundaries, and navigate relationships while maintaining self-respect.
Each meeting includes skills instruction, guided exercises, and time to troubleshoot practice between sessions. Participants receive a workbook with handouts and worksheets.
Who is this for?
Adults who want support with strong emotions, impulsive reactions, stress, or relationship difficulties. You do not need a particular diagnosis or previous experience with DBT.
This is a structured skills-training group. Personal examples are welcome, but you won’t be expected to share your full history.

Having dedicated their practice to helping adults navigate complex emotional landscapes, Kristina brings extensive background working at Good Therapy NYC and serving as a Substance Use Treatment Counselor at the LGBT Center in Manhattan. Their integrative approach ensures a safe, nonjudgmental environment tailored for individuals dedicated to sustaining and deepening their recovery.
This in-person weekly group offers a structured, clinician-led environment utilizing an integrative therapeutic framework to address the psychosocial dimensions of behavioral change. The curriculum welcomes all backgrounds, identities, and lifestyles, supporting participants across the entire developmental spectrum—from early stabilization to ongoing, long-term maintenance.
The clinical approach strategically blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills for pattern disruption, relational psychology to explore interpersonal dynamics, and motivational group dynamics to foster collective accountability and self-efficacy.
Core Therapeutic Focus Areas
Cultivating Connection: Grounded in relational psychology, participants explore relational patterns, practice authentic vulnerability, and leverage the supportive environment of motivational group dynamics to build an authentic peer network.
Developing Clarity: Utilizing evidence-based CBT skills, members identify cognitive distortions, process emotional patterns, and develop adaptive coping strategies to navigate life transitions with heightened self-awareness.
Fostering Purpose: Through values-clarification and motivational strategies, the group helps participants reconstruct identity, resolve ambivalence, and establish actionable, long-term lifestyle alignment.
